Thurman Campbell aka Cobra Back
Meet Thurman Campbell from NC! He’s another Beverly Longtimer. We featured him a few years back. YOU may remember him as Cobra Back!! He drives his truck on route and stops off at our facility to pick up his usual order of UMP Cookies & Créme, Ultra 40, (2) Lean Out, and (2) Mass Aminos.

My husband and I have 4 children. After my youngest was born my hormones went out of whack. I put on weight and couldn’t get it off. Add to the mix that I’ve also battled with eating disorders most of my life and you get a recipe for disaster. Luckily, I did things right this time, I followed a sound nutrition plan, my hormones gradually normalized, and I finally got the extra weight off.

Now, at age 31, I have been into fitness for 17 years (including competitive weightlifting at age 14). Besides being a mom and wife, I’m a personal trainer and fitness advisor for Welco Health Solutions, a PT technician and a distributor for Beverly International. I also have a Doctorate degree in clinical psychology from TJU/ASU, which I haven’t put to use… YET!

I was introduced to Beverly International by my Dad, Marty Street, years ago... I love what they stand for as a company (money into scientific research before marketing). For a first timer I’d recommend UMP Vanilla for its texture, flavor, and smooth mixability, but most of all for the nutrition value which stands alone among protein powders.

Cathy’s Tips:

  • UMP Pudding – I mix a scoop of UMP with a small amount of water and 1 tbsp olive oil to make a delicious pudding consistency. • UMP Shake – I put some juice in the freezer overnight so it’s slushy in the morning. When I wake up I add in vanilla UMP and SHAKE... Mmmmm.
  • I try to drink 3⁄4 of a gallon of water a day. I mix in 2 scoops of Glutamine Select and sip it all day to help with cravings.
  • I cook my lean meat, usually chicken, for the whole week on Sunday in a crockpot. Usually I’ll shred it, and take what I need for the day. (I pack my entire “daily food“ every night before bed for the following day.) Readiness is key.
  • I NEVER do the same workout twice... I go for the FEELING. Once in a while I go to failure. My chest gets sore VERY easily, my biceps and lower body, on the other hand, do not. I do work, depending on each muscle groups abilities.
  • Words I live by... Happiness is a choice, Dream big... and a quote that my Dad repeated throughout my childhood...There are two distinct pains in life, the pain of discipline and the pain of regret.
  • My Lifestyle Supplements are Mass Aminos, Glutamine Select, UMP, and Super Pak.

One thing I can tell you about competing is that you will learn a lot about yourself. You also need to be mentally tough because this sport is not for the weak! The closer you get to the show you’ll start to ask yourself, Why am I even doing this!? Make sure you have a quick response for yourself every time! For me, my response was, "Because I started and I am not going to quit!" I finish what I start, period. I compete for myself and to teach to my children how important it is to follow through with what you commit to doing. Competing is a way to challenge yourself by staying loyal & true to your word through your actions. This philosophy along with inspiration from my dear friend, Angelo Christo, and training advice from Jim Collins led to my winning 1st place (out of 21 in my class) Open Bikini B at the recent Kentucky Muscle contest.

I am an extremely busy mom so food prep can be a challenge. On top of that I am unique in that I follow a pescatarian diet. This means that my only sources of protein are eggs, protein powder (UMP), & fish. I prepare staples for my two boys and husband, as well as myself twice per week on Monday and Thursdays. My go–to meal is grilled or baked cod with Mrs. Dash seasoning & roasted broccoli with sea salt & pepper. Whenever possible I grill my fish and veggies. If it is too cold to use the grill I bake it in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes.
Here’s a look at my daily diet:
Meal 1: 5 egg white veggie omelet and ½ grapefruit OR UMP pancakes with Walden Farms syrup!
Meal 2: 1 scoop UMP & ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats
Meal 3: 4oz cod with ½ cup rice
Meal 4: 4oz cod with 2 cups of vegetables
Meal 5: 4oz cod with 2 cups of vegetables & 1/4 avocado
Meal 6: 1 scoop UMP & 1 tsp of flaxseed oil
Post workout meal: 1 scoop UMP

Lean Out – I started taking Lean Out during contest prep for the fat loss support. I take 2 Lean Out with every meal.
7–Keto MuscLean – 3 capsules in the morning & 3 capsules late morning. This product helped get me going in the morning and helped the fat burning process, especially towards the end when my body was being stubborn and trying to hold on to the last bit of fat.
Quadracarn – I would take this in the morning while in prep. This one size fits all supplement is necessary for anyone training & dieting hard! It helps with strength, fat loss, recovery, etc.
Glutamine Select – This supplement is necessary for anyone who does any type of regular, intense exercise. Glutamine Select helps with recovery, muscle soreness, and muscle loss prevention. Kim Chastain 1st place Open Bikini

After my first bikini competition, I started working seriously with Coach Adele Amor–Travis. My workouts focused primarily on legs, glutes, and shoulders twice a week and I kept my cardio at 3–4 times a week. Adele introduced me to Beverly International supplements. Results came fast and I had to reassess my goals from just placing top 5 to earning a 1st place Open Bikini win. In my second competition, I won that 1st place Open Bikini trophy and a SNBF pro card.

I’d been a healthy eater for most of my life, but scheduling every meal was new to me. As a first grade school teacher I have a schedule that revolves around my students so it took some time to adjust to my diet. It also took some time to adjust to food prep Sundays which have become essential to my dieting success. Preparing a weeks’ worth of food at one time takes all the guess work out of meal planning. I just “grab and go” throughout the week without being tempted to eat something that is not on my plan.

Kim shares her diet plan:
Meal 1: 1 scoop UMP, ¼ cup oats
Meal 2: 4 egg whites, ¼ cup oats
Meal 3: 4oz chicken or tilapia, 2 cups raw veggies, 1 tbsp olive oil dressing
Meal 4: 1 scoop UMP, 1 tbsp of natural peanut butter
Meal 5: 4oz chicken or tilapia, 1 cup veggies
Meal 6: 1 scoop UMP, 1 tbsp natural peanut butter
Occasionally I would also get a cheat meal so I wouldn’t lean out too fast and risk losing muscle.

Before trying Beverly, my protein shakes were a chore, not a treat. But at contests, I kept hearing other competitors talking about UMP and all the different ways to use it. When I finally gave UMP a try, I immediately knew why everyone loved it. I now can’t wait for my meals with UMP. I love to make pancakes, cookies, pudding, and even chocolate peanut butter cups with it. I keep UMP chocolate and vanilla in my pantry at all times.

What would you recommend to someone who has never used Beverly supplements before? UMP and Lean Out are my favorites. UMP can be used for so many different recipes whether on or off season. Pudding and peanut butter cups are great with the chocolate. Vanilla is great for cookies and pancakes. This healthy lifestyle is not a trend or fad for me. It pushes me to continually improve and set higher goals and it allows me to challenge myself every day. I absolutely love this new addiction!

My journey began 3 years ago at the age of 51. One of the trainers at my health club suggested that I do a Figure Competition. I laughed... I really didn’t even know what it was. I have always worked very hard at staying fit. Fitness and good nutrition have always been important to me. But a figure competition? It was so outside my box... My husband and I went to a local competition to see what it was all about! I was very intrigued by the show and the rest is history. I began working with a trainer. I wasn’t sure I could really do it, but I was determined to do my best.

My husband was my biggest supporter. He had total faith in me and never let me waiver! Five months later after a lot of hard training, dedication and a clean diet, I was up on stage giving it my best shot!! I was scared to death! I was shaking, I was so nervous. It was an amazing experience! I took first in Masters in my first competition! I’ve competed four more times over the next 2 years.

Beverly International was a huge part of my success and confidence! My fantastic coach, Keith Hunter, was a big fan of Beverly International and got me started with their products. I followed the regimen and called them with a lot to ask questions. They were always extremely helpful and always interested in what I was doing. I will be 55 in October and don’t plan on giving this up anytime soon. The dedication and determination is something that I am very proud of! Age is just a number! Anything is possible if you put into it more than what you are expecting to get out of it!!!

It’s the hardest part of preparing for a figure competition. You must be willing to sacrifice, but the results are always rewarding. I promise you!! It is truly amazing the transformation your body will make when you begin this journey in earnest. Big Tip... I found that my sweet cravings were satisfied with my chocolate UMP shake.

Lifestyle supplements:
Breakfast – 2 Fit Tabs, 3 EFA Gold’s with breakfast and dinner
Each Meal – 3 Ultra 40, 3 Muscularity, 2 Lean
Out, 1 Energy Reserve
Training – 2 scoops Glutamine Select & 10 Muscle Mass (when I need a boost, I take Up-Lift before training)
Before cardio – 5 Muscle Mass + 2 Energy Reserve I drink 2 gallons of water a day. I often add a few scoops of Glutamine Select to the water and drink it throughout the day.

You far exceeded my expectations. I normally have to be taking a supplement months before I start to see a difference, not with Beverly! Try making French Toast with UMP Strawberry!

Dipping batter:

  • ¾ cup unsweetened coconut almond milk
  • 1 scoop UMP Strawberry
  • 1 whole egg... Blend all together until smooth.

English muffins (microwave for 15 seconds before dipping). Dip muffin into batter- saturate both sides thoroughly. Place saturated muffin in a pan coated with coconut oil. Cook until crisp, then flip! This will make enough batter for at least 4-6 muffins. FAMILY size! Top with sugar free syrup –– if you like.
