Meeting Team Beverly at the Arnold Classic

Improve my physique in my second show

My association with Beverly International began a couple of years ago when I found their Web Site. At that time I subscribed to their No Nonsense Newsletter. It wasn’t until last February when I met Team Beverly in person at the 2000 Arnold Classic that I really decided to put into practice what they preach.

A few weeks before the Classic I received a postcard informing me that Beverly International was going to be there doing diet and program analysis.

The Beverly International booth was one of my first stops. I was greeted by Sandy and the first thing that she did was a bodyfat analysis. I was a hefty 200 pounds and 15% bodyfat. Sandy sat me down and we discussed my diet. I brought my training/nutritional journal with me as well as photos from my first bodybuilding contest from the year before. These proved to be invaluable for Sandy to accurately determine where to direct my nutrition.

First, she wanted to change my diet. I was eating too many carbs and not enough calories. This made me extremely happy that I was going to be able to eat more food! Secondly, I was to incorporate some Beverly Supplements. I was still allowed to use my favorite thermogenic. I had a lot of work ahead of me considering that my contest was just 12 weeks away, but Sandy thought it was still attainable.

My wife, Diane, and I discussed it over dinner that evening and we decided that I had nothing to lose and a lot to gain by purchasing the supplements and implementing the diet. The year before I weighed 159 and 5% bodyfat for the 1999 Show-Me Naturals and I barely placed 8th. Maybe Beverly International could help make a difference. I went back to the Beverly International booth and purchased my first months’ supplement supply.

As the weeks passed I remained in constant contact with Sandy via e-mail. I sent her photos of my progress as well as any dietary information she requested. She methodically tweaked both my diet and cardio.

Two weeks before my show, Roger and Sandy had a booth at the Caveman Classic, a bodybuilding show near St. Louis. I made arrangements to meet Sandy and have her check my progress. When we measured my bodyfat she was very pleased. I had dropped to 7% and she said I’d made great improvement and was right on track! Sandy had my final week’s menu and supplementation printed out for me. The extra attention that I received at that time was just what I needed.

The morning of the show I weighed in at 167 lbs. and 5% bodyfat, a full 8 lbs. heavier than the year before! When I was called out in the first call-out of the Masters 40 – 49 class, my heart jumped. I knew I had already dramatically improved my placing from the year before. I turned out just placing one place higher than in 1999 but my improvement was noted by everyone. Next year, I have my sights set on the Top 5!

I’ve only been training on a consistent basis for the past 3 years, but I am 100% convinced that proper diet, training and supplementation are the keys to success. Now I am preparing for the Caveman Classic and Show-Me Naturals in 2001. I may not have the best physique in the show but with the help of Sandy and the rest of the Team at Beverly International, I know that I will be the best that I can be.

My Precontest Diet Supplement Program

Super Pak w/ 1st meal, 4 Ultra 40 w/ every meal, 4 – Mass Aminos per meal, and 2 Lean Out with every meal.

Meal #1
8 oz. chicken, 93% lean beef, or turkey
3 egg whites, 1 yolk
1 grapefruit 

Meal #2
Protein Drink: 2 scoops Muscle Provider, 1 scoop Egg Protein,
2 TBS Heavy Cream, 1 TBS Flax Oil, 4 strawberries, 12 oz water

Meal #3
8 ounces chicken 
4 cups salad (lettuce, tomato, carrot, cucumber, 
green peppers, etc.)or 2 cups green beans
2 TBL Cider Vinegar 
1 TBS Sunflower Oil 

Meal #4
9 oz can tuna or 8 oz chicken breast 
3 egg whites, 1 tomato
